Guguloi Field Notes is a passion project born out of a desire to document my progress. Just as my plants have grown tremendously over the last year, I feel like I am growing up and want to document my progress so I have a baseline to reference. This is the starting point for creating a legacy that exists beyond the confines of my own mind. I am excited to see what I can do and who I will work with along the way.
Over the past year, I attended over 40 shows with my best friends and truly feel that I have become part of a community larger than myself. "You have good energy" is one of the best compliments I have ever received at a show, and that stuck with me. Music has such a profound impact on my life. I have shared so many belly-aching giggles and wanted a way to document and record these moments, because over time memories fade and I don't want these moments to be so fleeting. I see my friends chasing their dreams, and I can't help but smile. I'm not entirely sure what my dream is yet, so I am hoping Guguloi Field Notes will help me map it out.
I am taking a chance on myself and just trying to find what I am truly made of. I recently left a full-time role after realizing that I couldn't ignore my feelings. Being burnt out and feeling stuck is not how I want to exist. Being young with minimal obligations, I am afforded the flexibility and opportunity to do what is best for me. At a certain point in life, with a family of my own, I won't be able to put myself first. I want to challenge myself to learn new skills and see what happens.
I am, by nature, very risk-averse and cautious, and I worry that if I don't push my boundaries, I will live a life unfulfilled. I can't leave meat on the bone; life can change in an instant, and I am so blessed to have the family, friends, and existence that I do now. I don't take it for granted, and I wanted to share it with the world because I think there are people who feel similarly and people who will challenge my preconceived notions.
Currently, I am grappling with where and how I want to live. Do I leave the comfort and familiarity of the nest now while I can? Do I enjoy where I'm at without rushing to the next thing? Will I regret not taking a leap of faith? So much to consider — I feel that if I write out and explore my thoughts and ideas, I will live a life authentic to me.
